Summer Style Rules from the Runway

I love the variety of styles that come along each summer. Ok, so the temperatures are rising but you don't have to let your style suffer because of the humidity; here are a few items straight from the runway to wear all summer and beat the heat while looking gorgeous.
1. Loose fitting pants: Call them slouchy pants if you want, but these can be effortlessly chic when paired with a vest. Add heels for a night out or flats for a perfect daytime look. Plus, no stuffing yourself into tight pants and smothering--seriously ladies, you can't go wrong with this look.
2. Printed Dress: A pattern is the summer's top option for rocking a feminine frock! For a completed look, throw on an abbreviated leather jacket, a long thin cardigan (belt it) or a menswear influenced tuxedo jacket (who doesn't love those).
3. Sunglasses: Is there a more vital summer accessory? I think not.
4. Clogs: I know, who thought these would become chic? This sturdy wood-heeled accessory is all the rage for sandals this season.
5. Woven Bag: No longer just for the beach, this bag is becoming fashionable in the day-to-day events. Who can say no to a new bag?
6. Army Green Jacket: Ok, so maybe you could wear this over dresses on those summer nights. I admit, it's a little too warm for this item during the day, but look at it!
7. Coral Polish: Get your nails to really shine and standout this summer with this lovely shade!
8. Stripes: I told you the striped T-shirt dress was making a comeback and now stripes are taking this season by storm!
Each of these items will add effortless glamour to your summer wardrobe and you will love the different variety each of these items offer! Happy Shopping.

Household Items to Spruce Up Your Wardrobe
We all know the importance of keeping our wardrobe in good condition. Would you believe that some of your every day household items could be the key to sprucing up your wardrobe? Today, I'm going to share a few secrets to help keep your wardrobe looking new for years to come!!
1) Keep tea bags scented with jasmine, vanilla or mint nestled in your dresser drawer to infuse your clothes with a nice fresh, subtle fragrance.
2) We've all worn the wrong shoes on a rainy day, gotten them soaked and sadly believed there was nothing we could do to revive them. Give this a trick: help the shoes preserve their shape and dry faster by placing crumpled newspaper in them over night.
3) Use an ice cube tray to store jewelry. The trays can then be stacked into a drawer to create a multi-tiered alternative to bulky jewelry containers.
4) Unstick a stubborn zipper by rubbing the teeth on both sides with a pencil (sounds crazy but it really does work).
5) Spray a light coat of starch over the interiors and exteriors of canvas or nylon sneakers before wearing them to repel dirt and grime (and keep the just-out-of-the-box look).
6) When traveling, prevent wear and tear on your favorite pair of heels by slipping them inside a man's sock.
7) Swiffer sheets may clean your leather furniture like a dream but have you tried them on your shoes? You might want to consider it the next time you notice how your heels look.
Hopefully, these little tips will save you some grief when you deal with a stubborn zipper or get stuck in a storm in your new heels. Happy Shopping!

Ways to Look Skinnier By TONIGHT!
The summer is here and that means bikinis and summer dresses that show off areas we may not be so proud of. Lets face it, we're busy! We don't always have time to exercise as much as we should and the diet thing well, more power to you if you can last longer than a week on one of those. But never fear ladies, I'm here to help you out with a few tricks that can make you look slimmer for tonight:
1. Buy a new bra: When was the last time you were measured for a bra? Over 85% of us are walking around with the wrong size and this can make your breasts look lower than they should be. Keep the girls happy with the right support and your torso will look leaner.
2. Invest In Shapewear: This option is not for everyone. If you are all about the miracle known as Spanx but hate how hot they are in the summer try Skinny Britches. This new line from Spanx offers an ultra sheer alternative perfect for the summer heat.
3. Play With Color: Wearing all black in the summer will not make you look thinner; crazy maybe but not thin. Try adding color in a way to play up your assets. For example, if you have wide hips and thighs wear a dark navy pencil skirt and a bright pink cardigan.
4. Show Off Your Legs: Summer is not a season for leggings, so take a few steps to show off your legs the right way. Shave or wax, whatever your preference, and do the maintenance to keep the smoothness. You can nix paleness and cover veins with a sunless tanner or bronzer and then just add nude heels that blend into your skin tone to add the illusion of longer legs.
5. Wear a V-Neck Top: This simple downward diamond shape elongates and narrows so you don't have a cutoff point, which gives the illusion of extra inches. Also, with this look remember the importance of a good moisturizing lotion to get rid of dry skin and the appearance of fine lines.
While all of these items will help you look thinner, here are a few items in your closet that may be making you look bigger than you are:
Sleeveless shirts
Oversized T-Shirts
Capris (if you have cankles)
Gladiator sandals or any shoes that cut you off at the ankle
Shorts & Boy Shorts Swim Suits
Metalic Swimwear or shiny Satin Skirts (they accentuate every bulge)
Ladies, you now have the power to look like you've lost a few pounds by tonight; use it well.

Back to Basics

"I can't find anything to wear!" We've all been there. Our wardrobes generally consist of various items bought because they were trendy, we liked the color or they were just really on sale. But all of these pieces do not a fashionista's wardrobe make. Actually, there are a few rules that if followed will create a wardrobe that is trendy and practical (versus having tons of clothes in the closet that we never wear). Today I present to you the essential items every woman should include in her wardrobe:
1. Black Dress: I know, this one is a given, but it remains true. This timeless classic is perfect for almost any occasion and looks flattering on any shape; can we really ask any more out of one dress?
2. Dress Pants: When you find a pair that fits your shape perfectly they can be one of the most flattering pieces in your closet. Also, keep in mind that black will be the most figure friendly color and go with most anything.
3. Skirts: If you need dress pants, you need skirts! Skirts can be business professional or fun and flirty! Need I say more?
4. Day Dress: Who says dressing up is only for night time? This classic look is making a comeback! Paired with the right accessories, this look can transition from business to fun with no effort!
5. Jeans: This item is all about the fit. Every woman has jeans, but how many of us have properly fitting jeans? Find the best jeans for your shape and you will look anything but casual.
6. Classic Shirt: OK ladies, these do not have to feel like we are wearing our man's clothes. Try a classic white shirt and pick a fit appropriate for your shape to accentuate your great figure and minimize your problem spots. (For example, if you have wide shoulders stay away from large collars)
7. Any Occasion Top: This item is perfect to wear under a blazer for a professional look but lose the blazer and you're ready for fun!
8. Trench Coat: This is a great way to accentuate your waist, and have fun with great patterns and details. I know it's summer, but the fall will come again and now you can be prepared.
9. Jacket: I love this item and this is what takes up most of the room in my closet. Find a feminine fit that shows off your waist and you will turn heads. A great jacket can be at home in the office or paired with skinny jeans, heels and a great top for a glamorous yet casual look.
10. Sweatsuit Alternative: I know nothing is more comfortable than a sweatsuit. But we need to break the habit; on certain days at least. Try getting some khakis, cords or a cotton dress for the same comfort value but a better look.
Most of these items are classic but don't worry about them going out of style. As long as they are a great fit for your figure you can wear any of these items for years to come.

Rising Stars in Fashion

I love to try out a new style but in full honesty, I'm not a trend setter. I'm more likely to see a celebrity with a style I like and copy bits and pieces while still trying to make it my own. I've chosen my top 3 rising stars that I think will make a huge difference in fashion the rest of 2010.
Dakota Fanning: She has grown before our eyes and now hits red carpets in chic little numbers that blow us away!
Amanda Seyfried: Oh how things have changed since Mean Girls! This girl has such a versatile style and has come out on top!
Lea Michele: Gleek or not, no one can deny she has style! From Broadway to the small screen Lea is proving she's the new "it" girl on TV.
While I only chose 3 MSN has a list of 10 stars to watch (my top 3 made the cut) so go check out their article on 10 style stars to watch this year at msn.com

The Biggest Shopping Mistakes
We've all done it. We go shopping and we find an outfit that we don't love but we think we can make it work eventually. This item goes home with us and sits in our closet never to see the light of day again.
I devote this blog to the biggest mistakes we make when shopping, learn from these mistakes & your wardrobe will rapidly improve.
1. Don't talk yourself into buying an outfit that is unflattering to your frame. No matter how trendy the outfit may be, if it doesn't look good on you it's not worth it!
2. Uncomfortable shoes will remain uncomfortable regardless of how cute they are.
3. Don't buy something you don't need just because of a huge sale. This is a waste of closet space.
4. Don't buy on impulse. Ask yourself "will I wear this" "does it match my lifestyle" "where will I wear this" if you can't answer these, put the item back (you can always return later to pick it up if you decide you really will wear it).
Avoid doing these and your wardrobe & you will be much happier.

Summer Lovin

No one can deny that a summer wedding is romantic. However, most guests have no idea how to dress for one. Here are just a few tips to have you ready to enjoy a friends wedding instead of being stressed trying to find that one appropriate outfit to wear.
Take your cue from the invitation. If the wedding is "white tie" then you will need a more formal gown (and let's be honest, these invites are rare).
If the wedding is after 6, you will need to dress up a little more, but still try to keep your look summery (sleeveless dresses, strappy sandals, glowing skin).
Keep hairstyles intact with soft updos and keep makeup to a realistic level (you don't want your face to start melting halfway through the ceremony).
Look for pretty florals or bright colors to keep your look in season and wedding appropriate.
Of course, you know who carries the latest dresses in Nashville!
