Lest We Forget

Happy Memorial Day! Today is the day we need to remember all who have bravely fought for this country; but several go unmentioned each year.

At 615 we try to help women be more confident and feel empowered by being able to show off their unique style and remain true to themselves. We are proud to serve the women of Nashville and help them be unique.

Unique women fill the pages of our history books, but the female soldiers go somewhat unnoticed; especially those from the Revolutionary War and the Civil War on days such as this.

I read a story from MSNBC this morning that was about the women who have fought bravely for this country and I encourage each of you to read it to and remember the brave ladies who did not conform to the social norms of their time.

Why We Love Sex and the City

Most men can not even begin to understand the impact Sex and the City has. They don't understand labels or shoes and really just think the show is about drama. We on the other hand, understand and thrive on SATC.

The friendships, witty responses and fashion sense have enraptured all of us.

This movie will be overflowing with the most fashionable fashions around! The girls will also be setting the Fall 2010 fashion trends with their new vacation looks. Next Fall expect to see a lot of Egyptian inspired Cleopatra looks (such as blunt bangs and the heavily lined eyes, maxi dresses, gold cuffs, ankh crosses, royal bib necklaces and hieroglyphic pendants.) You can't tell me you didn't see this coming and I for one am thrilled!

Another must have element has to be the witty banter. How many of us use quotes from the show & movies? If you don't I'm sure you have a friend who does.

But at the heart of SATC is the friendship. Who doesn't love meeting your girl friends for drinks and fun? I love dressing up on a Friday night and meeting my friends to relax after a long week; and spill a few details of the latest drama in my life.

SATC is all about the things we as women hold dear. So, call up your girl friends get glammed up and go have some fun! 615 is here to help you look as good as your favorite character just stop by.

Have a great holiday weekend!

Top Summer Trends for Every Shape

Summer is here and it's bringing cute trends with it; as long as you know how to pull them off. Let's face it, each trend generally looks best on a certain shape. I say this has plagued the curvy, tall & lean and petite women for far too long! The top 3 trends for the summer can be worn by every body shape, if you pay attention to a few rules.

Trend 1) Floral
This look adds a feminine touch to any outfit and can be worn by anyone. Just pick a floral print that matches your frame. Petite should go with a small delicate print instead of a larger print and vice versa. But as this print will become the focal point of your outfit make sure to show off your best assets.
Pear-shaped bodies: wear the print on your upper body to balance hips and draw attention to your face.

Inverted triangle bodies (large bust & narrow hips): place the print on your lower body to balance your broader shoulders

Hourglass: pair a printed dress with a belt to accentuate your waist

Trend 2) Military
This trend comes every spring and this year it's not going anywhere! This trend looks best when you use it to update pieces you already have in your wardrobe.
Pear-shaped bodies: choose a military jacket with epaulets or structured shoulders to balance your hips

Inverted triangle bodies (large bust & narrow hips): avoid military jackets with structured shoulders that will make you appear top-heavy. Choose one that has pockets at the hips or opt for military cargo pants to balance your broad shoulders

Hourglass: pick a jacket that pulls in to give you a defined waist and if you choose bulky cargo pants balance your frame by adding a top with a structured shoulder

Trend 3) Shorts
I know, I know you cannot believe shorts are on the summer trend list. If we're being honest, most of us have a difficult time trying to find the right pair of shorts for our frame and that is why they have made the list.

Pear-shaped bodies or inverted triangle: choose a short with pleats & fuller legs

Petite figures: try short shorts to make your frame appear longer

Tall figures or those with long waists: go with a longer, flowing short to balance your frame

Curvier figures: choose shorts that give you coverage and stop at a narrow point in your leg like your lower thigh

After this brief tutorial, you are now ready to look amazing no matter which trend you choose!

Can I wear Denim like this?

I am in love with denim. You can dress it up by wearing dark wash or black skinny jeans or dress down with flip-flops and a T-shirt. I've always known that denim is extremely popular and versatile, but not all trends should be followed. With runways showing so many different ways to wear denim, here are a few tips on how to wear denim the right way.

1. Acid Wash Denim
No, I'm being serious, this trend is coming back. The big question with this look is how to wear it without looking like you're stuck in the 80s. When done the wrong way this look will add width and weight so what you need to look for is a straight distressed modern style and not go for the full acid wash. (avoid the blue & white streaks at all cost ladies)
This look should appear dark gray and look very professional, but still have the style of acid wash.

2. The Old Jeans & Jean Jacket Combo
Everyone has tried this look at some point & if you're like me you worried about lighter washes clashing with the darker but you didn't want to be too matchy matchy at the same time. But now I have good news for you: there is a way to wear this look without looking like you work in the rodeo!
Matching the denim ages the look and makes it harder to wear. An outfit I would suggest is a light wash denim romper with a cropped jean jacket. Add a cool belt to show off your waist & break up the look and you will be a denim trend setter.

3. Denim Swimsuits!?!?
As much as I love denim I missed this trend completely! I had to find out about this trend; did the suit fade in the sun? take hours to dry? was it even swimmable?
No it doesn't fade or take hours to dry, these little items are exactly like a regular swimsuit, they just have a jean design. My best advice is to keep in mind your shape. If you are long and athletic (aka would be wearing a bikini anyway) go for a short and bikini top suit and you will look fabulous! These also come in one piece and have covers for the shy.

All denim lovers rejoice in these great new ways to wear a classic!

Fool Proof Graduation Gifts

Have a grad in your life but have no idea what to get them? Although money is always an acceptable gift, there is another way to help them get ready for the next phase of their life.

For the new college graduate the job market will become a critical aspect in their life. The job market is incredibly competitive and if they should get the job they will need to be prepared for the part not only in skill but dress as well.

While some positions are very lenient in dress code, the jeans and college T's still aren't really appropriate. Below you will find a few must have items that could really help out the new grad:

Little Black Dress:
OK, most girls don't survive college without one of these but if yours has, its time to remedy this. Most jobs come with different events she will need to attend. Those first events came be nerve wracking and looking fierce can boost her confidence. Don't feel she cant express herself though, there are dozens of prints and styles that would be appropriate for events.

Dressy tops:
These can go flawlessly from business day to casual night. They look great with a pencil skirt (another must have) and add personality to a suit or blazer.

Skirts:
Depending on the job, these can still be cute & fun as long as they are an appropriate length. These can also be dressed down for weekends with flip-flops or glammed up for nights out with the girls.

Shoes & Accessories:
Most girls have these areas covered, but if they are getting ready for work events, make sure she has a nice clutch instead of a boho bag to carry around for the evening. Shoes are something every woman collects. Now her collection should move away from flip-flops and tennis shoes and on to heels, flats and dressy sandals. Again, she can use fun prints to show off her personality with shoes even if her job requires her to dress more conservatively.

The pictures on this page are just a few of the items 615 has that would be perfect for a grad. Congratulations class of 2010!

the art of dress shopping

I don't know about the rest of you, but shopping for a new dress terrifies me! There are such different shapes and well, let's not get started on my shape; which presents a new set of problems making my search even more difficult.

But I am here to tell you I have been taught a secret. A secret that will lead you to finding the perfect dress for your shape:

There are essentially 5 styles of dresses. If you know these 5 you can dress for any outing!

Style 1: The A-Line
OK, so must of us know about this one. It's smaller in the waist and flairs at the bottom (making a letter A). Did you know this is the most versatile of dress styles? This style is recommended for practically every woman!

Style 2: Sheath
This one is basically straight from neckline to the bottom. This is good if you want to show off your curves (not so good if you don't). This style enhances what your momma gave you and allows you to show it off in the best way possible.

Style 3: Wrap
This is again, a figure friendly style. If you want to hide your curves a little but still have a feminine form, go for the wrap. Plus, the wrap has evolved over the years into some really hot designs.

Style 4: Trapeze
Sounds scary right? Picture a triangle and you have the trapeze. This style is great to show off toned arms and can hide curves. OR you can add a belt at the waist and show off your tiny mid- section.

Style 5: Shirt Dress
Who hasn't had one of these? These dresses have evolved from just t-shirts to dresses that can be worn into the office (& who doesn't love the comfort factor?). These can hide curves or again you can add a belt to accent your tiny waist.

So, don't fret the next time you have to find a dress! Just keep these simple facts in mind & you will find your true style in no time!
